DEPEND ON HIM

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
Hebrews 13:8 KJV

I received an email three years ago from someone who wrote “I depend on your devotions to keep me going through the day. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is turn on my computer and see if you have sent the devotion for that day”. While that email encouraged me, it also broke my heart.

The first thing we should do when we get up in the morning is to tell Jesus we love Him and then open our Bible and read it. We should do this before we read the newspaper or turn on the television set. However, we also need to spend time with the living Word, our precious Saviour.

Don’t depend on me or any other person. We are in the flesh and we will fail one another. For years, I used to put people on a pedestal and when they fell, just as I will fall from a pedestal, it broke my heart and devastated me. Jesus will never fail us. Depend on Him and Him alone. We can trust Him with our life.

As much as our spouse and our children love us, only Jesus can give us the joy that our heart desires. “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Psalm 16:11). If you want to have real joy and happiness, stay in the presence of Jesus.

Heavenly Father, You are a tender, forgiving, compassionate and loving Father. You love us so much that You have given Jesus to us to not only be our Saviour, but also to be our light, our joy and our guide through life. Thank You. I love You, dear Father, and I appreciate all You have done for me. Amen.
