WASN’T THAT ENOUGH

“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer that a brother.”
Proverbs 18:24 KJV

Someone emailed me and wrote “Several years ago, I gave a gift to someone. This person is upset with me because I haven’t emailed or called since then. When I gave this person the gift, wasn’t that enough to prove that I am a friend”? The answer to that question is “No, that doesn’t prove you’re a friend”.

When we repent of our sins, ask God to forgive us and invite Jesus into our heart, Jesus becomes our personal Saviour. However, Jesus is more than just our Saviour, He is also our friend. He encourages us and comforts us just as we should do for one another. Jesus tells us He loves us every day.

No, it’s not enough to give people a gift and never contact them again for several years. If we don’t email them, write them or call them for several years it’s no wonder they don’t believe we are a friend. Friendship is like a marriage in the sense that we need to encourage and comfort one another on a daily basis.

Heavenly Father, we praise You and thank You for Jesus. He is not only our Saviour; He is also the greatest Friend we have. Jesus, thank You for the many times You have comforted and encouraged me. Thank You for never leaving me, not even for one minute. I love You with all of my heart, dear Jesus. Amen.
